The P.S. 33 Student Council wanted to do something to help the victims from Haiti. Together, they decided to have a fundraiser.

"I watched the news with my mom and I felt so bad for the kids. They had no home and no food. I felt so lucky. I felt like we had to do something," said Jenille Mitchell of the 2nd grade.

Fourth grader Giovaan Aubrey’s father just came back from Haiti after a week "My father went to Haiti to help translate. He worked with lots of doctors. When he came back he told me & my brothers that it looks bad on tv but the devastation is so much worse when you see in person."

On Friday Jan 22 the school had a dress down day. All students who brought in a $1 got a day off from their uniforms and got to dress down in support of this cause. The response was overwhelming. In only 2 days, the whole school came together as a community. Many of the teachers were also very generous as well as the P.T. A. Together, we raised $1,913.

"A lot of my classmates didn’t even care about the dress down day they just brought in money. Most of them brought in over 3 dollars," stated Adam Mohammed of the 5th grade.

A cooperative administration supported the student council’s ideas and let them put it into action. They also helped the council count the money. PS 33 gave the money to the Mayors Fund, where 100% of the money goes straight to relief.
